Who We Are
David A. Westman, MBA, CPA, CAE is a versatile executive working in and on behalf of not-for-profit organizations and professional services firms. He applies his financial and human resources management background, coupled with strong business acumen, solid consulting expertise and business excellence tools, to promptly assess situations, brainstorm new approaches, and assure strong returns on investments (see Westman Bio).
Mr. Westman has a network of experienced associates to draw upon, as needed, to assist clients in addressing a wide variety of organizational needs.
Who We Serve and Why:
Westman & Associates was established to assist associations, foundations, social service organizations, educational and cultural institutions, and other not-for-profit organizations. We also support for-profit entities that provide management services on behalf of not-for-profit organizations.
Although most of Mr. Westman’s career has been spent working in corporate environments, he gradually developed a strong affinity for mission-focused organizations – the passion and dedication of their volunteer leaders and staff, the causes they represent, and the general willingness of such organizations to share best practices with and learn from each other.
How We Help Our Clients:
Westman & Associates operates under the premise that organizations are best positioned to achieve their mission and vision when they focus on both business excellence, and a mindset of valuing, nurturing and supporting their most critical asset – their people.
Business excellence starts at the top, with a clear governance model that defines roles and accountabilities of the board and staff. Assuming there is consensus on the model, it is critical that boards have the right tools and processes to assist them in their governance roles (e.g., frameworks for strategic planning, enterprise risk assessment, and board development). Westman & Associates has the expertise and tools to offer boards in this regard, as well as general meeting facilitation skills.
At the staff level, business excellence takes various forms. Westman & Associates can help an organization in many ways, including but not limited to designing:
An organization structure that supports mission/vision attainment.
Processes and tools to facilitate staff’s role in strategic and operating plan development, implementation, and reporting.
An infrastructure and tools to help drive continuous improvement through the organization.
Programs to engage and build relationships with external organizations and individuals who can provide critical financial support to the organization -- through advertising, exhibiting, sponsorships, grants, affinity programs, individual donations, etc..
Business excellence, as important as it is, depends on people from an implementation perspective. The most successful organizations create “employer of choice” working environments that serve to attract, retain, and motivate staff to perform at high levels. Westman & Associates has hands-on experience, expertise, and tools to create such environments – focusing on effective performance management, communication, compensation, and low or no cost reward and recognition programs.
